Finding Scholarly Articles for Your Course Assignments

I. Using OneSearch to Find Articles and eBooks for Your Course Assignments
If you like google search, you would love OneSearch (see the Search Box above that says "Enter search term here".   OneSearch allows you to find quality full-text articles and ebooks across many of the resources subscribed by CSI and CUNY. Try typing anti-vaxxers or healthcare management in the search box and see what you get. II. Using Individual Databases to Find Articles for Your Course Assignments

As you have seen above, OneSearch allows you to search across many of the library resources in one place, but there are times when searching an individual database, especially a subject-specific database might be more effective, giving you not as many hits as OneSearch, but more relevant articles. In addition, the search Interface might be more user friendly...Try a few of the following databases to find peer-reviewed articles on topics this course focuses on. Do not forget that these databases can also generate APA and MLA citations for you, a big time-saver.  Databases 1-4 below are all from database provider EBSCOhost, with similar interface. So if you learned the basics of searching in one (take the Medline or Business Source tutorials linked below), you will be able to search in others.

  1. MEDLINE Complete   (Watch Tutorial)
    Largest bio-medical database including research articles on healthcare. Try typing anti-vaccination movement in the search box (note: if you use term anti-vaxxers or anti-vaccines, use "anti-vaccination movement" instead, since this is the correct Mesh/subject term used in Medline.
  2. Business Source Complete   (Watch Tutorial)
    Large business database providing research articles on all aspects of business, including healthcare management and policy, healthcare services marketing, employment law...Simply type your topic (a few key words) into the search box and you will find scholarly peer-reviewed articles
  3. Covers health care access, health care quality, and health care financing. 
  4. Academic Search Complete   (Watch Tutorial)
    Large academic database for articles on many subjects, including business and healthcare management...
  5. Nexis Uni
    Full text of hundreds of national and local newspapers and magazines...
  6. GALE EBOOKS: Good for background reading on a topic
  7. Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints
    Resource for hundreds of topics, including health care issues and legislation...Search using keyword "Vaccines", and you will retrieve peer-reviewed journal articles, reports, and multi-media content on the topic.
  8. CQ Researcher
    ​Provides in-depth coverage of current hot topics including healthcare policy... There's a lengthy report in the database by Lemons, J. (2016, February 19) titled "Vaccine controversies". Type the title in the Search box and you'll see the full report and related reports.
