Due to the circular architecture of the College of Staten Island's Library stacks, stacks books on the 3rd floor are organized by color sections as well as call numbers. To find the color section and aisle number of a book, use the PDF below to look up a call number.

The Collection

The CSI Library is committed to providing a balanced collection of select materials that support the College’s instructional, curricular, and research goals. At present, the Library’s collection consists of approximately:

  • 175,538 print books
  • 988,488 ebooks
  • 191,859 online journals
  • 1,789 print journals
  • 158 online databases
  • Access to over 5500 streaming video titles
  • 4,623 physical moving image media (2,654 VHS; 1,466 DVD; 503 16mm titles)
  • 5,000 sound recordings
  • 1,100 musical scores
  • 13,000 linear feet of archival materials, plus 1600 volumes

Where to Find Reserve, Reference, and Stacks Books at CSI

At the College of Staten Island, physical books are classified as either reserve books, reference books, or stacks books. 

  • Reserve Books
    • Textbooks and other resources required by classes at CSI.
    • Can only be checked out for two hours at a time and must be used inside the library.
    • Located on the first floor behind the circulation desk, and you will have to ask a library worker to check one out for you.
  • Reference Books
    • Encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference materials.
    • Can only be used in the library and cannot be checked out.
    • Located on the first floor of the library.
  • Stacks Books
    • The rest of CSI's collection of books.
    • Can be checked out for 8 weeks and can be renewed once for an additional 8 weeks.
    • Located on the 3rd floor of the library.
