Affirmation of Statements about Racial and Social Justice Made by the CSI, CUNY, and Library Communities

The CSI Library strongly affirms the following statement, issued by the CUNY Council of Chief Librarians:

The CUNY Council of Chief Librarians and the Office of Library Services condemn racial violence and police brutality perpetrated against Black Americans. Racism is rampant in our country and is often embedded in educational curriculum, policy and procedures, and hiring practices.

We stand in solidarity and support of our Black colleagues and students, and commit to active anti-racist work in librarianship and higher education within and beyond CUNY.

We endorse the Statement Condemning Increased Violence and Racism Towards Black Americans and People of Color issued by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.

The Department of the Library is committed to inclusion and diversity, and strongly rejects racism, discrimination, and violence perpetrated against all marginalized groups based on race, religion, gender,  gender identity, sexual orientation, legal status, or disability. We uphold the American Library Association's Core Values of Librarianship and we affirm these statements on racial and social justice.
