Archives History Day Event!
William Gamble: The Life of a Revolutionary Era Briton in New York

Tuesday, October 27th, 2020 | 2:30pm | CC CLUE
Register in advance via Zoom

The CSI Library Archives and Special Collections owns a volume of calligraphy specimens executed by William Gamble (c. 1730-1794) that includes a prospectus for an encyclopedia, a fanciful Gamble coat of arms, an example of micro-calligraphy, and a map showing British troop encampments on Staten Island.

Gamble had purchased a commission in the British Army as a way of seeking his fortune and was posted to the Colonies in 1755.

Independent scholar Joe Wages will share the results of his research into Gamble’s activities leading up to, during, and after the American Revolution.

This event is held in observance of Archives History Month. Archives Month is observed nationally during October to celebrate and promote the rich documentary heritage of our nation and the importance of archival and historical records to our lives.
