In celebration of International Education Week (IEW), the CSI Library is pleased to present two films ; Black Girl (Senegal) and On the Roof (Cuba).
International Education Week (IEW) will be held November 18 through 22, 2024 this year. We will be offering two film screenings during Club hours (Tuesday November 19th and Thursday November 21 (2:30pm-3:30pm).
Black Girl (1966, 59 minutes) from Senegalese director Ousmane Sembène tells the story of a a young Senegalese woman who becomes a maid for a French couple, but is mistreated and made aware of her race. This film will be shown on Tuesday November 19, 2024 from 2:30pm-3:30pm.
On The Roof (2017, 1 hr. 15 min), a film by Cuban director Patricia Ramos Hernández will be shown on Thursday November 21, 2024 from 2:30pm-3:30pm. The film is about three young Cubans who are crowded in a decaying neighbourhood of Havana who imagine prosperous futures for themselves as they struggle to meet the demands of everyday life. Both films will be shown in the Library Theatre (1L-103).
This is a CC CLUE event. Both events are co-sponsored by the Center for Global Engagement and the Department of World Languages and Literatures.
