Reading and downloading content from Ebook Central

Click the link for the ebook and choose “Read Online” or click “Available for Online Reading,” and you can access, search and annotate the selected ebook. After 5 minutes of reading, or if you choose a download option, you will be asked to log-in to your College of Staten Island SLAS account—the same account you use to access library resources off campus or to log into library computers.

If you receive an "unsafe connection" warning from your web browser (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Safari) about "proxy.library.csi" you can proceed to the site. All our resources use this proxy, but this type of link sometimes triggers the warning.

If you will be regularly referring to particular pages, we strongly encourage you to use the “Chapter Download” link to permanently download a portion of the book as a PDF for off-line reading. If the link gives you the error message “Sorry, your entry exceeds your print allowance for this title,” all you need to do is to click the “Read Online” button. Then choose the Chapter Download icon Chapter Download Icon. You will then be able to see how many pages you are allowed to download, and you can pick the particular pages you want.

If you wish to view the entire book off-line, you can borrow the book for one day. Just follow the instructions as prompted when you choose the “Full Download” button. You will need to download Adobe Digital Editions for computers or Bluefire Reader for phones and tablets. These free programs will open the files you download from the Ebook Central website. If you just want to read on your laptop or desktop, you can skip the prompts for an “Adobe ID,” but if you want to read the same book on multiple devices or read on any mobile device, you will to get a free Adobe ID account.
