The Cultural Services is a division of the French Embassy in the United States. The Cultural Services was first imagined in the 1930's by Paul Claudel. In 1945 General de Gaulle appointed Claude Lévi-Strauss as the first Cultural Counselor, with the mission of providing Americans (individuals and organizations) with access and resources to engage with French culture and promote it in their own communities.

At present, ARTFL's main corpus, ARTFL-FRANTEXT, consists of nearly 3,000 texts, ranging from classic works of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing. The eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries are about equally represented, with a smaller selection of seventeenth century texts as well as some medieval and Renaissance texts. Genres include novels, verse, theater, journalism, essays, correspondence, and treatises. Subjects include literary criticism, biology, history, economics, and philosophy. In most cases standard scholarly editions were used in converting the text into machine-readable form, and the data contain page references to these editions. The FRANTEXT corpus is updated as new high-quality digital texts become available.

Designed to meet the needs of the research community worldwide, our online portal offers quick and easy access to the collections of the 48 National Libraries of Europe and leading European Research Libraries.

Users can cross-search and reuse over 19,906,848 digital items and 124,400,827 bibliographic records.

It includes all of Voltaire's literary works. The database will be updated regularly with further texts from the Oxford edition as they become available.

Creating French Culture traces the history of this relationship from Charlemagne (b. 742?-d. 814) to Charles de Gaulle (b. 1890-d. 1970), through the prism of more than 200 magnificent "treasures" on loan from the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. The Bibliothèque's generous collaboration has made possible a unique exhibition which includes many items never before seen outside of France. The choice of items was dictated as much by their historical importance as by their artistic value in the hope that they will provide insight into, and spark curiosity about, the complex history of the United States' oldest ally.

The Louvre, in its successive architectural metamorphoses, has dominated central Paris since the late 12th century. Built on the city's western edge, the original structure was gradually engulfed as the city grew. The dark fortress of the early days was transformed into the modernized dwelling of François I and, later, the sumptuous palace of the Sun King, Louis XIV. Here we explore the history of this extraordinary edifice and of the museum that has occupied it since 1793.

Museum in Paris, France, on the left bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin and Van Gogh. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986.

Le Musée Marmottan Monet, ancien pavillon de chasse de Christophe Edmond Kellermann, duc de Valmy, est acquis en 1882 par Jules Marmottan. Son fils Paul en fait sa demeure et l’agrandit d’un pavillon de chasse destiné à recevoir sa collection d’objets d’art et de tableaux Premier Empire.

Le musée Rodin a été créé en 1916, à l’initiative de Rodin, grâce aux trois donations successives qu’avait consenties l’artiste à l’État de ses œuvres, de ses collections, de sa bibliothèque, de ses lettres et manuscrits. Il est établi sur le site choisi par le sculpteur : l'hôtel Biron et son jardin, un hôtel particulier construit au début du XVIIIe siècle, que Rodin occupait, comme locataire, depuis 1908. Ce dernier a aussi fait don de sa résidence à Meudon, la Villa des Brillants, qui constitue aujourd’hui une annexe du musée.
