Power of Protest: The Movement to Free Soviet Jews

The CSI Library is excited to announce a new traveling exhibit, Power of Protest: The Movement to Free Soviet Jews, now on display in the Library Rotunda from Oct 10 through Nov 8, 2019.

The Power of Protest explores the personal stories of American Jewish activists and Soviet Jews, known as refuseniks

This exhibit, co-sponsored by CSI Hillel, examines how organizations, student activists, community leaders and individuals helped Soviet Jews, who were denied the freedom to practice Judaism. This exhibit strives to show how Jews fought to help protect the right to religious freedom and the continuing responsibility to preserve that freedom.

Exhibition highlights include stories of everyday Americans, and public figures like Natan Sharansky (Israeli politician), Sergey Brin (co-founder of Google), and Sheryl Sandberg (Chief Operating Officer of Facebook).

Power of Protest: The Movement to Free Soviet Jews was organized by the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia and supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a government agency dedicated to advancing innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement.
