Please join us for an Archives Week Event: Archival Research in Practice, “Chief Hush, Hush: Reclaiming a Life Lived Before Stonewall,” on Tuesday, October 29th at 2:30pm in the Library Archives and Special Collections, 1L-216 [CC CLUE Event].

From 1938 through 1949, a man, who we would now identify as gay, created journals and scrapbooks to keep a detailed record of his life and the friendships and relationships he was developing with other men. Although the man documented his private life, he was deeply closeted; in fact, his friends nicknamed him Chief Hush, Hush. Archivist James Kaser will use photographs and text to explore this man’s life in the closet.

This event is held in observance of Archives Week. Archives Week is observed nationally during the month of October to celebrate and promote the rich documentary heritage of our nation and the importance of archival and historical records to our lives. Through exhibitions, lectures, programs, receptions and other events the public is invited to archival repositories to get a glimpse of the letters, journals, and other materials that historians use in the writing of history.

This event is co-sponsored by the CSI Library and the Office of Student Life – LGBTQ Resource Center/Pluralism & Diversity.

Hope to see you there!
