How do I find a reference work?

Answer

Resources found in the reference collection include dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, handbooks, bibliographies, indexes, and other reference books in all subject areas. Reference books are useful for looking up quick facts, definitions, statistics, biographies, and general topic overviews.

When searching for books in OneSearch, all reference books that are available in-person will say "Available at CSI Library Reference" as seen in the green circle below.

To refine your search to reference materials, available both in-person and electronically, click on Reference Entries under Resource Type. This will be on the left side of the results page, as seen in the red circle below.

To refine your search to reference materials only available in-person at the CSI Library, click on Reference under Location. This will also be on the left side of the results page, as seen in the blue circle below.

Most of our reference books are available electronically. Some of our printed reference books are located in the first floor reading room just beyond the Reference Desk and in the 3rd Floor Stacks. Many reference books are non-circulating, which means they cannot be checked out. The Reference Librarian can help you locate and search for reference materials as well.
