In December 2019, Wuhan Municipal Health Commission, China, reported a cluster of cases of pneumonia in Wuhan, Hubei Province. A novel coronavirus was eventually identified and designated “SARS-CoV-2”, and the disease it causes “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). COVID-19 was officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11th, 2020.
