Please join the College of Staten Island Library for a half-day symposium titled Conversations About Open: OER, OA, and Pedagogy.

Open Educational Resources, Open Access, and digital pedagogy are sometimes misinterpreted, misunderstood, or conflated. The purpose of this symposium is to provide an overview of OER and to support encourage its adoption by faculty in order better reach CSI students in the classroom. This symposium will provide attendees with a foundational understanding of OER, their significance within higher education, and their particular relevance to the College of Staten Island. As textbook costs continue to rise disproportionately to inflation, so does the barrier for students who struggle to afford course materials.

Faculty on campus and across CUNY have been working to integrate OER and freely accessible materials into their curricula to make the learning experience more equitable for all students. Learn about the CUNY-grown platforms that have been built in order to sustain the use and sharing of OER across schools, hear talks from CSI and CUNY OER champions, and from students who are directly affected by inaccessible textbooks. We are excited to announce a keynote address by Karen Cangialosi, Professor of Biology and Open Education Faculty Fellow at Keene State College.
